Avoid scams and impersonation
Scams often begin with ordinary conversation. Pay attention to what a person asks you to do, even when their story feels personal or convincing.
Last reviewedPause when money enters the conversation
Watch for urgent travel costs, medical bills, gift cards, cryptocurrency or an investment opportunity from a person you have not met. Do not send money or financial credentials to an online romantic contact. A photo, video call or identity document can be manipulated and is not a guarantee.
Be cautious about “verification” links
A member may send you to an outside page claiming you need to prove your age, pay a security deposit or unlock a meeting. Do not enter card details, upload identity documents or reuse your CityXDate password on a page sent by a stranger.
Messages written by members are not official CityXDate support instructions. Check the website address yourself and use the contact information published on this site. Do not trust an email address simply because it contains our name.
Notice pressure and inconsistent stories
Be wary of someone who repeatedly avoids meeting, pushes you to act in secret, changes important details or becomes threatening when you slow down. Searching an image or discussing the situation with someone you trust may help you spot inconsistencies. A search that finds nothing does not prove the person is genuine.
If you have already sent money or information
- Stop further payments and contact your bank or payment provider promptly. Explain the suspected fraud and ask about available recovery steps.
- If you shared a password, change it anywhere it was reused using the official service. Secure your email account first if it may be compromised.
- Keep transaction references, usernames, page links and relevant messages. Do not send intimate images or identity documents in a public post.
- Report the relevant post on CityXDate. Contact the fraud reporting service or police in your country when appropriate.
- Treat anyone demanding an advance fee to recover your money as another potential scam. Recovery is never guaranteed.
